Three children were killed, and four people were injured in Pennsylvania on Monday when a horse and buggy went through a stop sign and collided with a dump truck.
“The horse and buggy failed to stop at a properly posted stop sign at the intersection, and the buggy proceeded into the intersection,” the Pennsylvania State Police said in a press release.
According to PEOPLE, state troopers were called to the scene in Little Britain Township in Lancaster County shortly before 8 a.m.
The buggy driver failed to stop at a stop sign, entering the intersection, where the truck hit the buggy on the passenger side. Three juvenile passengers of the cart were killed. According to the press release, the four other passengers were taken to Lancaster General Hospital and later transferred to Hershey Medical Center.
The driver of the truck was not hurt and remained on the scene to talk to police.
The accident is currently under investigation by the state police and the district attorney’s office.
Buggies are common in Lancaster County, which is home to a large Amish population, which believe that driving cars can weaken community ties.
