A Florida mother is in jail after her baby daughter lost multiple fingers after being mauled by a three-month-old pit bull.
Chloe Wisniewski, 21, allegedly told police she had just bought the 3-month-old puppy from Facebook less than 24 hours before it attacked her baby inside their home earlier this year, PEOPLE reported.
The mother, of Port Charlotte, was arrested on June 16 and charged with child neglect, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office report shows.
Her arrest came nearly four months after the Feb. 14 attack. Wisniewski allegedly left her baby inside a bassinet in the same room where she kept a 3-month-old pit bull mix puppy.
She told authorities she went to take a “quick shower” but suddenly heard screaming. When she came out of the bathroom, she saw Apollo — the puppy inside the bassinet “chewing” on the baby’s hand.
She pulled the dog off the baby and wrapped the baby’s hand in a cloth, then called 911. The affidavit reads.
The baby – whose age was not released – was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors amputated three fingers from her left hand and partially amputated two fingers from her right
Apollo was then quarantined as part of the protocol and transferred to the Animal Welfare League
Wisniewski’s urine analysis allegedly tested positive for THC at the time and authorities found probable cause that she allegedly “did, by culpable negligence, failure to provide the baby with the care and supervision and services necessary to maintain physical health,” causing “permanent disfigurement” to the child, the Miami Herald reported.
