An accidental Christmas Day shooting Sent a 3-year-old child to the hospital in Henderson, North Carolina.
Authorities received a call around 2:30 p.m. Saturday reporting that the child had got their hands on a firearm and accidentally shot themselves, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said.
CNN was told that the child, whose gender or name wasn’t released, was airlifted to Mission Hospital and was getting medical treatment.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Last year in the US, over than children under the age of 18 were killed or injured in gun incidents, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
