A disturbing incident unfolded in West Philadelphia on Wednesday morning, leaving a 40-year-old man in critical condition after he was shot and then set on fire. The attack happened on the 5400 block of Lansdowne Avenue around 10:36 a.m., when police were alerted by reports of a person screaming in the area.
According to police sources who spoke with FOX 29’s Steve Keeley, the horrific events began when the 40-year-old victim was found in bed with an 18-year-old woman. The woman’s mother and her boyfriend arrived unexpectedly at the apartment, igniting a violent confrontation. The 38-year-old man accompanying the mother reportedly opened fire on the victim, while the mother took it further—allegedly pouring a flammable liquid on the victim and setting him on fire.
Both suspects, the 38-year-old man and the 35-year-old woman, were quickly apprehended by police and are currently in custody.
The victim was rushed to Jefferson University Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for severe burns across his body. His condition remains critical as medical teams work to stabilize him.
At this time, police have not released the names of the victim or the suspects involved.
