A Michigan judge dismissed a criminal threats case against 42 Dugg on Thursday after the woman who accused the Detroit rapper of sending threatening messages failed to appear in court.
Prosecutors had charged the rapper with making malicious threats tied to messages allegedly sent to a woman between November 12, 2024, and March 11, 2025. According to court documents, authorities said the messages were sent with the intent to “terrorize, frighten, intimidate, threaten, harass, molest, annoy, or disturb” the woman.
Prosecutors also claimed the woman was pregnant with 42 Dugg’s child at the time. They alleged the messages were meant to pressure her to get an abortion, though court records do not state whether a child was ultimately born. Authorities also accused the CMG star of threatening physical harm toward members of the woman’s family. 42 Dugg pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court in January. The charge carried a possible penalty of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The case also drew attention while it moved toward trial. Prosecutors attempted to revoke 42 Dugg’s bond after claiming he traveled across several states for performances, including a Mardi Gras kickoff event in Louisiana. However, he said there had been a misunderstanding and that he believed he had permission to travel for work.
Prosecutors also noted the alleged incident occurred while 42 Dugg was already on probation connected to a federal case out of Georgia that included travel restrictions.
However, when the trial began on Thursday, the case quickly ended. The court dismissed the charge after the alleged victim did not appear to testify.
42 Dugg’s attorney, Steven Scharg, told TMZ, “Mr. Hayes always maintained his innocence, and we were prepared to proceed to trial today since these allegations were not true.”
