Maleficent’s Dragon is a favorite in the Disney parks parades, but something went wrong during a Saturday night appearance in “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland. Several videos posted to social media show the dragon completely engulfed in flames.
Video shows the 45-foot dragon’s head burst into flames on Tom Sawyers Island during the light show. The fire quickly begins the spread, overtaking the entire animatronic.
The fire broke out toward the end of the show while Mickey Mouse was fighting Maleficent’s Dragon. Even though it spread quickly, staff was able to extinguish the fire using a water feature used in the show.
NBC Los Angeles reports that about 1,000 guests were immediately removed from the area, and there are no reports of any injuries.
