The NFL is not playing around with off-field behavior. The latest Baller to feel the league’s wrath is San Francisco 49er, Aldon Smith, who has been suspended 9 games.
Aldon Smith’s name is synonymous with trouble. Less than a year ago he was facing 3 felony weapons charges for an incident that happened at a party in his home, he spent 12 days in jail for DUI and back in April he was arrested for making a fake bomb threat at LAX (just to name a few). The NFL didn’t specify which, if any of the above, incidents called for the suspension but they do say that he violated the league’s substance abuse and personal conduct policy.
In a statement released through the NFLPA today, Smith said: “I apologize to my teammates, coaches, the entire 49ers organization and 49ers fans for not being able to contribute on the field for the next several weeks. Over the last year, I have learned a lot and I’m working hard to grow from my experiences. I want to thank my family and friends, my teammates, my union and the 49ers for supporting me during this process. I will be at work daily to participate in all permitted work activities, and to support my teammates, just as they have supported me.”
