San Francisco was rocked Saturday afternoon when 49ers first-round pick Ricky Pearsall was shot during a brazen daytime robbery.
The 23-year-old wide receiver was targeted by a 17-year-old thief trying to steal his Rolex in Union Square around 3:37 p.m., according to police.
As the teen attempted to snatch Pearsall’s luxury watch, a struggle ensued, leading to gunfire. Pearsall was shot in the chest but reportedly fought back fiercely. Both the football player and the suspect were taken to the hospital, with Pearsall in serious but stable condition.
The suspect, also injured, was quickly apprehended by responding officers as he attempted to flee the scene. Authorities emphasized that Pearsall wasn’t targeted because of his NFL status, but the incident has left the city on edge.
The 49ers confirmed Pearsall’s condition, while teammate Deebo Samuel reassured fans, tweeting, “He’s good. Thank God!!!”
