The San Francisco 49ers have addressed their two biggest question marks heading into Week 1 of the regular season. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk agreed to his extension last week, and today, All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams did the same. Williams signed a three-year deal worth $82.66 million, including $48 million guaranteed and a $25.69 million signing bonus.
Speculation began this morning when Williams’s brother posted a photo of him arriving at the San Francisco airport. The deal, which took some time to finalize, now has Williams signed through the 2026 season. In 2021, he agreed to a six-year, $138 million deal, but the last two years of that contract were not fully guaranteed, leading to a standoff during the offseason between Williams and San Francisco.
At 36 years old, Williams is still arguably the best pass-blocking tackle in the NFL, boasting a 95.8% pass-block win rate. He is a three-time First Team All-Pro and a 2015 Second Team All-Pro entering his 14th season. Williams remains a crucial player in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, where All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey continues to put up impressive numbers.
Fans in the Bay Area are excited for the season opener against the New York Jets on Sunday, a team with an improving defensive line.
