In the world of Black hair, the natural hair journey is an empowering and deeply personal one. Those who choose to loc their coils undergo an even more beautiful process.
For years, people with locs have struggled for hair acceptance in society, specifically within work environments. Thanks to laws such as The Crown Act, which has passed in 27 states, hair discrimination is prevented in professional settings.
While this fight for acceptance is far from over, locticians lend their expertise and quality products to ensure all locs are flourishing and maintained. Additionally, locticians are skilled in understanding different hair textures, scalp health, and the unique care needs of locs. As we celebrate Black History Month, let’s highlight several locticians who are pushing the loc movement forward with beautiful styles and innovation.
Marlanda Jean-Baptiste, founder of Marvelous Hair & Beauty, located in Tampa, Florida
Jenn the Stylist, traveling celebrity loctician
Rose Mac, founder of Rose Beauty, located in Decatur, Georgia
Locs by Lokelo, traveling celebrity loctician
Lady Locks, founder of Madame Mane Beauty, located in Pennsylvania
