Authorities have identified five of the eight people killed during the Astroworld Festival on Friday.
John Hilgert, a ninth-grade student at Memorial High School, died during the incident. School administrators confirmed his death in a letter to parents on Saturday.
“Our hearts go out to the student’s family and to his friends and our staff at Memorial,” Principal Lisa Weir wrote. “This is a terrible loss, and the entire MHS family is grieving today.”
The family of a 16-year-old Brianna Rodriguez, who was a junior at Heights High School, also confirmed that she died due to the tragedy.
A parent-teacher organization at Heights High School expressed its condolences to Rodriguez’s family.
Officials at the University of Dayton in Ohio confirmed one of the 21-year-old victims was Franco Patino. He was a student there majoring in mechanical engineering technology.
Danish Baig, 27, was trampled while saving a relative at the Astroworld festival. Baig was killed after trying to save a relative during the stampede at the concert, his brother Basil Baig confirmed on Facebook.
Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ Pena, 23, was an aspiring model and dreamed of being a US Border Patrol agent one day. He died of cardiac arrest.
Each of the schools also confirmed that they would have counselors available Monday for students and staff who may need support during this time.
Our thoughts are with our Heights family affected by the tragedy at the Astroworld event. Per Ms. Hampton's call, counselors will be available for students and staff on Monday & for as long as they are needed. Please encourage your students to reach out. @ghostofheights
