Five Things You Should Do Before New Year’s Day

Everyone has traditions and ways of doing things to bring in a new year. Some people like to party, while others prefer to avoid crowds by staying home or attending a virtual church service. There’s really no wrong way to do it, but with each new year, we should all consider it as a new opportunity to start fresh.

After the year we have had, it is time to get our lives and house in order for 2021. Here are a few ideas to help you get started:

Clean Your House- Cleaning your house from top to bottom is obviously something you should be doing consistently anyway, but clearing clutter and having a clean home for the new year is a must.

Create A Vision Board– Instead of making resolutions that are easily forgotten this year, how about creating a Vision Board for yourself? Consider your goals and the steps needed to help you attain them. Write them down on the board and keep them displayed somewhere visible in your home. They say people who actually write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them.

Commit To Being Healthier- Make this the year where you start a regimen for your physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being. You can begin with something small, like drinking more water or starting a fitness routine. Maybe you need to start seeing a therapist for healing or get more frequent massages to de-stress. Whatever it is that you need to do to be healthy and whole within your spirit, do it!

Get Your Finances In Order– As a whole, Black people in America are great consumers of goods and services upwards of a trillion dollars. Let’s try to get better at saving money and building wealth. No, this doesn’t mean you need to join a pyramid scheme but start reviewing your spending habits to understand where your money is going. Make slight changes where necessary, get a hold on paying down your debt, and start saving and investing. You have complete control over your circumstances at any budget and should want to make some improvements for the year ahead.

Plan To Do Something New- People mistakenly think that they need a lot of money to invest in new experiences, and that is simply inaccurate. If you need to pick up a trade or enhance your earning potential, you can find discounts on professional classes or certifications on Coursera. Maybe you want to get out more and try new things. Groupon has special offers on pretty much everything, and be sure to think outside the box. Don’t limit yourself by thinking certain activities are only for “white people.” Get out there and have some fun.
