It’s 2015 and you’ve probably made a resolution to finally jump start your dream career. The same resolution you make every year but this year, this year is going to be different. You’re more prepared now. You’re older, you’re wiser and you’re more in tune with who you are. So what’s the hold up? What’s stopping you from reaching your goal? The answer may be simpler than you think. It’s you.
More often than not, we are our own road blocks. Are you standing in the way of your own success? Read more to find out:
1 – Are you afraid? Fear is nothing but you confirming that the enemy is most powerful. There’s a saying that goes something like “You can’t believe in God and have fear” because it’s true. How can you trust everything is going to work itself out and yet still be afraid? It’s important to take risks and fear nothing. If it doesn’t work out in your favor it was either done incorrectly or not meant to be. Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take and only %50 of the ones you do. Say NO to “Fear of Failure”.
2 – Are you too busy watching everyone else? Here’s the thing, you can’t win a race if you’re always looking behind you. Stop putting energy into what everyone else is doing and focus on being the best you that you can be. Who cares if you have copycats, reinvent yourself and give them something else to copy. Who cares if you have haters, keep being successful and give them more to hate. Spend less time watching what others are doing because in the long run, it does not effect you. Keep your head forward and eyes on the prize.
3 – Do you place blame and make excuses? If you’re the type that finds every failure to be someone else’s fault, you’re not taking responsibility. If you’re not holding yourself accountable, chances are you are the cause of your own downfall. The key to being successful is to see where you went wrong and to fix it. If you can’t even admit when you are wrong, how can you ever plug the holes in your system? From here on out, make no more excuses. Take your downfalls like a man and fix it!
4 – Are you complacent? Happy with where you are? Well, if there is a level higher than where you are, you shouldn’t be content just yet. The key to success is to always strive higher. The saying “don’t tell me sky is the limit when there are footsteps on the moon” is what aiming higher is all about. Never be happy with where you are. Be happy you made it thus far, and keep going! Always keep your finish line moving. Not only will you reach new heights, you’ll appreciate the hard work in the long run.
5 – Do you want to give up? If you always want to surrender at the first sight of a challenge, you’ll never reach the goal you are after. Nothing worth having comes easy. Everything comes with a struggle. I’ve fallen off the horse 100 times before eventually getting it right and I’m sure Oprah, Barack Obama and countless others can say the same. No winner was a winner all the time. Remember, even Steve Jobs was fired from Apple. Stop succumbing to your own negative thoughts and never give up on something you really want.
