A 5-year-old boy was killed in Michigan on Tuesday in a suspected hit-and-run by a heartless driver who allegedly fled the scene and went to work.
According to People, a GoFundMe page set up by the boy’s family explained that a Jeep struck 5-year-old Preston Singleton as he rode his bike outside with his sister and aunt.
The page says that Preston’s family members “all witnessed him being thrown from his bike after [the] Jeep hit him,” and he died on the way to the hospital.
Police identified the driver as 22-year-old Maurice Sumler, who allegedly fled the scene after hitting the child. Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer claimed Sumler subsequently abandoned his SUV before going to work.
The police report showed that Sumler was located at a gas station, where he allegedly admitted “hitting something.” He is now charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, a felony that carries up to 15 years in prison.
