50 Cent says there’s more ‘Power’ where that came from. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the media mogul says he’s cooking up a “Power” spinoff.
Between Ghost, Tommy, Tasha and especially Tariq, fans can’t get enough of the action-packed drama series. And according to the show’s executive producer 50 Cent, fans won’t have to, because a spinoff is on its way. Fifty sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the next chapter of the show, ‘Power Book II: Ghost,’ which will follow the journey of some of the show’s most iconic characters. #MaryJBlige is even set to star in the show.
“It does not make sense to even market or promote the idea of it ending when it’s growing so fast. Like this year, the first episode of Power came in 40 percent over its last season’s viewership. The show is still growing, so there’s no reason for you to say that it’s gonna end ’cause it’s not,” he explained. The rapper went on to say that the show has developed a younger demographic that they want to capitalize on. “There’s a large portion of the audience that watches their television on a phone, on an eight-inch screen.”
“Millennials are doing that,” he added. “The younger person [is] actually getting into it. And then it’s cool; you got the demographics that I feel like is my core demo that is committed to things.”
Not only has 50 put his producing hat on, but he’s even dibbled and dabbled in the art of directing, with his directorial debut being the third episode of the sixth season, “Forget About Dre.” He said it’s his favorite episode of the season. It’s the sixth and final season of the show, and 50 explains that fans haven’t seen anything yet.
“It’s gonna be intense, man. You gotta buckle up and prepare for the ride. It’s a rollercoaster. There’s so many different cool moments in it that I think… OK, I’ll tell you the truth: I think my episode is the best. I think I’m the best. I think I’m 50 Scorsese.”
