Whether in the city or the suburbs, keeping your kids safe this Halloween is a top priority. Whether heading out solo or with friends, everyone can use a few tips to make sure the night stays fun without any scary surprises.
With all the excitement of trick-or-treating, it’s easy to overlook a few safety basics.
Here’s a quick rundown of simple ways to keep your little monsters safe:
1. Glow Up & Stay Lit
Visibility is key! Give your kids some glow sticks, reflective tape, or light-up shoes to make them easy to spot. Don’t forget flashlights for those dark streets, hidden steps and of course for easy visibility for drivers on the road.
2. Stick Together
Always travel in a group. Whether you’re with family or friends, there’s safety in numbers. If your kids are younger, keep an adult with them. Older kids? Make sure they have a buddy and stick together the whole time.
3. Customize Your Costume
Avoid costumes that drag or are too bulky. Tripping over a long cape or oversized shoes can quickly ruin the night. Make sure their costumes fit right so they can run from house to house safely and comfortably.
4. Check the Candy First
Before your kids dive into their haul, check every piece of candy. Look out for anything unwrapped, opened, or suspicious-looking. Homemade treats are a no unless you know the person who made them.
5. Stay on the Path
Stick to well-lit streets and familiar neighborhoods. Remind your kids to use sidewalks and only cross the street at corners. No jaywalking, even if the house across the street looks super tempting!
6. Set a Curfew
If your teens are going out on their own, make sure they know when to be home. Setting a curfew ensures they get back before it gets too late—or too spooky!
Follow these tips to ensure that your kids  have a safe, lit, and candy-filled Halloween!
