A 7-year-old was shot while riding in a car past Phipps Plaza in Atlanta’s Buckhead area on Monday night.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the child was riding in a car with her aunt and mother when the aunt noticed the victim was acting strangely. According to police, the aunt saw the victim was shot and drove to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The child, who was shot in the head, was taken immediately to surgery.
The aunt told police that she had heard several gunshots while riding past the luxury shopping center. Police confirmed to AJC that a group of men was fighting in the parking lot outside Saks Fifth Ave.
“Homicide detectives took over the case and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Officer Steve Avery said in a statement.
As of Tuesday, the child was listed in critical condition. No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.
