As if dating wasn’t already hard enough, you have to admit it gets even harder around the holidays. As we continue with our twelve days of Christmas celebration, let’s chop it up about the unique experiences you might encounter while meeting your mate’s friends and family.

⠀⠀
The holidays introduce a whole new aspect to dating. Not only are you still trying to get to know bae, but now you have to prepare to meet their closest friends and family. If you are already a nervous wreck, meeting rude people could definitely knock you off your rocker. Especially, if they’re your boyfriend’s female best friend.

⠀⠀
You’ve only said all of two words to this girl and she’s already giving you side eyes and eye rolls. You know that in the presence of your man’s family, you have to keep it cute, but what do you do if she’s really asking for it?

⠀⠀
Talk to your man
If you don’t have time for the shenanigans, pull your man to the side and ask him what’s up with his friend. Explain how it’s making you uncomfortable and if he’s really down for you, he’ll nip it in the bud quickly.

⠀⠀
Play nice
Some people are not confrontational and that’s totally fine. My grandma used to always say, “Kill them with kindness.” If she’s mean mugging and giving off negative energy, just give her a smile and brush it off. Hopefully, she’ll see that she’s the one with the real issue.

⠀⠀
Address the situation head on
I know it sounds crazy because you just met the girl, but sometimes it’s better to be straightforward. Strike up a conversation with her and try to feel her out. Maybe the attitude is just her natural energy. Ever heard of “resting b**** face?”

⠀⠀
Whatever you decide to do, try your best to enjoy yourself and have a good time. If she’s content with having that filthy energy, devote your attention to the positive people in the room, like yourself. Whether she gets her act together or not, remember she’s not the one you’re dating and that’s all that matters.
