According to Miami Herald, a 9-year-old girl in Putnam County is the youngest to die in Florida from COVID-19 complications.

Authorities have not confirmed if she had any underlying health complications.

The child, whose name has not been released, was one of four other minors who died due to the virus.

An 11-year-old girl in Broward County, an 11-year-old boy in Miami-Dade County, a 16-year-old girl in Lee County and a 17-year-old boy in Pasco County all died as a result of COVID-19 over the past month.

As cases continue to soar across the U.S., Florida remains an epicenter for coronavirus, with alarming rates of confirmed cases in younger populations.

CNN reported that 23,170 minors tested positive for the virus in Florida as of last Friday. Those numbers have increased over the past week. According to data from the state, 28,087 children have tested positive as of Wednesday night.

The positivity rate within children tested in the state is 13.4%.
