An 85-year-old man was arrested on charges of fatally stabbing his 81-year-old wife over a plate of pancakes.
The U.S. has accused Steven Schwartz. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia of fatally stabbing his wife, Sharon Schwartz, at their residence on Sunday. According to authorities, the incident occurred when he refused to eat the pancakes she had prepared, leading to him stabbing her in the back.
Law enforcement was dispatched to a residence in Northwest D.C. following a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered 81-year-old Sharon Schwartz within their apartment, afflicted with stab wounds. Additionally, Schwartz was found at the scene with injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted.
Both individuals were taken to local hospitals for medical attention, but unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Schwartz was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder while armed, as stated by the police.
On Thursday, Schwartz made a virtual appearance before a judge and pleaded not guilty. The judge determined that there was probable cause to believe he committed the murder and ordered him to be held without bond. Schwartz’s next hearing is slated for January 2nd.
