A news team from Chicago covering a series of robberies found themselves becoming victims of a robbery during their reporting.
Univision Chicago, a Spanish-language station, reported that a journalist and a photographer were recording footage shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood. During this time, three individuals wearing masks and carrying guns approached them and carried out a robbery. The suspects took away their television camera along with other belongings.
“They were approached with guns and robbed. Mainly it was personal items, and they took a camera,” Luis Godinez, vice president of news at Univision Chicago, said.
According to Godinez, the news team was in the process of shooting a segment about the robberies occurring in the West Town community. He mentioned that the content they captured was stored in the camera that was taken during the robbery, resulting in the story never being broadcast.
The Chicago police have revealed that the victims were a 28-year-old man and a 42-year-old man but will not disclose their identities. According to the police, the two individuals were outside when a group of three men arrived in a gray sedan and a black SUV. Following the armed robbery in which the news crew’s belongings were taken, the suspects escaped in their vehicles.
Nevertheless, there were no reported injuries, and as of now, no individuals have been taken into custody.
