A Delta Airlines Flight Was Forced To Land After The Plane’s Windshield Shattered; Flight Was 30,000 Feet In the Air

A Delta Airlines flight was forced to land after its windshield shattered while the plane was in the air.

While 30,000 feet in the air, the cockpit windshield on a flight traveling from Salt Lake City to Washington, D.C. shattered. The Guardian reports the glass had lines of cracks but did not fall from its frame. Crew members on board had to tell the 198 flyers to stay calm as the flight descended.

“They came on the loudspeaker saying that the windshield had shattered, and we were diverting to Denver in about 10 minutes,” said one of the passengers, Rachel Wright. The plane was in flight for about 90 minutes.

In a statement, the airline apologized for the “inconvenience.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, the flight crew diverted into Denver and the plane landed routinely. Our team worked quickly to accommodate customers on a new plane, and we sincerely apologize for the delay and inconvenience to their travel plans,” the airline statement said, The Guardian reports.

“I’m really good at playing what-if? And so, my mind goes to kind of, what could have happened, worst-case scenario and I’m grateful,” Wright said. “It could have been really bad, it could have gone very differently.”

Wright added: “I’ve never been more grateful to spend an extra three hours in an airport.”
