Guess who’s hitting the road for a blast from the past?
The groundbreaking cast of “A Different World” is reuniting but not for a television spin-off. Instead, they will be hitting the road for a 10-city tour of historically Black colleges and universities. The trek will celebrate the show’s 35-year legacy, which helped propel HBCU culture into the spotlight when it debuted on September 24th, 1987. “A Different World” stars Darryl M. Bell, Charnele Brown, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Dawnn Lewis, Cree Summer, and Glynn Turman are all on board for this exciting journey. Comedian Sinbad will also be joining his old crew nearly four years after suffering a stroke, which forced him to relearn how to walk.
While the full schedule for the tour is still being prepared, HBCU students can expect panels and other fantastic events centered around the series. However, the tour is not just about reliving the good old days. Instead, its mission is to support HBCUs and raise funds for scholarship programs to support Black and brown students. Cisco and Wells Fargo are stepping up as sponsors to ensure that more students can access the transformative experience of HBCUs.
This nostalgia train departs on February 29th, stopping first in Atlanta, Georgia, beginning at the Atlanta University Center, which houses the prestigious Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. It will conclude in April, visiting both Alabama State University and Tuskegee University.
“Our mission goes beyond nostalgia. We’re on a quest to raise awareness and enrollment for HBCUs nationwide,” the tour’s website states. Tickets for those who aren’t students are available on the website.
