The conditions at Rikers Island continue to decline as word comes that a maintenance worker was robbed by a “gang” of inmates at the jail complex on Monday.
According to The New York Post, the worker was standing near the medication window inside the Otis Bantum Correctional Center around 3:45 pm when he was suddenly mobbed by a group of inmates who surrounded him and demanded his watch, sneakers, and cigarettes.
In the incident report, the worker claimed one of the inmates pulled out a homemade knife and threatened that he would “stab me up” as another prisoner snatched his watch off his wrist.
Jail officials are investigating this latest incident.
