90s babies, where ya’ll at?! Our favorite friends from ‘Rugrats‘ are headed back to the big screen soon.
Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action/CG hybrid movie based on the popular ’90s animated series. The film will blend animation and live-action, similar to recent films like Sonic the Hedgehog.
Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, and twins Phil and Lil DeVille are confirmed to be part of the new film.
While it’s unclear which other familiar faces will return, fans are hopeful that characters like Angelica Pickles, Dil Pickles, and even the trusty family dog Spike will make an appearance. Parents like Stu and Didi Pickles and Chas Finster may also join the mix, giving a full look at the original Rugrats world.
The Rugrats show first debuted on Nickelodeon in 1991, running for multiple seasons and earning a special place in pop culture. The series has already inspired several movies, including The Rugrats Movie (1998), Rugrats in Paris (2000), and Rugrats Go Wild (2003), which brought the Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys together. The franchise saw a reboot in 2021 on Paramount+, introducing a new generation to the adventurous toddlers.
Jason Moore, known for directing Shotgun Wedding starring Jennifer Lopez, is set to direct the film. Moore has also been involved in Broadway shows like Avenue Q and Shrek the Musical, and he’s currently working on other film projects like Guncle and This Time Tomorrow.
