A massive shooting in Philadelphia left three people dead and multiple severely injured.
On Saturday, police responded to gunshots on South Street in central Philadelphia at around 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, authorities found several people with gunshot wounds lying on the sidewalk and street.
Investigators believe the shooting happened after one of the three killed was in “a physical altercation” with another man. The two began firing at each other, with both struck by gunfire. Two handguns were found, including one with an extended magazine, but investigators say they know from evidence that five guns were involved.
Another officer saw a man on a street corner firing into a large crowd about half a block away. The officer drew fired several times and believed the man was struck before he dropped his handgun onto the sidewalk and fled.
“It’s important that we bring justice to the victims, their families, and our community,” says Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.
The bystanders killed were 34-year-old Gregory Jackson, 27-year-old Alexis Quinn, and a 22-year-old man who was not identified. The individuals that were wounded ranged from age 17 to 69.
