A doctor from Queens has been accused of administering drugs and engaging in sexual assault against multiple women, including female patients.
Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng is facing assault allegations that occurred at New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Cheng is accused of administering drugs and sexually assaulting three patients while they were unconscious. Additionally, he is also being charged with administering drugs and sexually assaulting three more women he met online.
“This is a doctor who preyed upon people’s most vulnerable times. You go into a hospital, you expect treatment. At the very minimum, you expect trust,” Queens County District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “And so what this indictment alleges is someone who is preying upon individuals that could not act, that probably would not remember, and that were drugged.”
One of the individuals took additional measures by initiating a civil lawsuit against New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Attorney Nicholas Liakas indicated that the person was 19 years old during the assault. As per Liakas, the incident occurred while the survivor was receiving treatment for stomach discomfort. Reportedly, Dr. Cheng administered an unfamiliar substance through IV, resulting in her losing consciousness. He then proceeded to sexually assault her, capturing the incident on camera.
Katz mentioned that her office is currently identifying a minimum of six additional women depicted in the videos. However, she acknowledged the potential challenges as the recordings were filmed across various locations.
“We have more than six other videos of women who are being abused. We are looking for the identities of those women. So we’re making a public appeal that if someone believes they might have either been under the influence or whether they believe that they may have been abused by this doctor, that they come forward to our office,” Katz said.
