If it wasn’t bad enough that Tiger Woods shot a 4-over 76 during the opening round of the British Open, which is the worst he’s ever performed at this tournament, now he’s getting made fun of by a group of old people. On Thursday, Tiger participated in the first round of the Open at St. Andrews. He came in feeling somewhat confident but that was short-lived as he bogeyed the first and second holes. From there, things got progressively worse and he fell towards the bottom of the leaderboard by the end of the day.
Prior to the tournament, he was asked by reporters whether retirement from the game was in the near future. “Retirement?” he responded. “I don’t have an AARP card yet, so I’m a ways from that.” While I’m sure Tiger didn’t mean to throw shade at them with his comment, AARP definitely felt some type of way about what he said. So after his poor performance on Thursday, they wasted no time throwing that shade right back at Tiger. “@TigerWoods It’s better to be over 50, than it is to be over par. #DisruptAging #TheOpen,” the account tweeted. Ouch!
Things for Tiger just seem to get worse and worse. On a personal level, he just broke up with long-term girlfriend Lindsey Vonn and was accused of having an affair with another golfer’s wife. And on a professional level, he has been playing the worst golf of his life. The man can’t seem to catch a break. Let’s see what happens during round 2 of the tournament. At this point, it’ll be a miracle if he makes the cut this weekend.
