“Abbott Elementary” is showing no signs of slowing down, as the hit sitcom has been renewed for a third season.
The news comes after the show’s incredible Golden Globe victory Tuesday night. “Abbott Elementary” landed the award for Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical) at this year’s ceremony. Less than 24 hours later, ABC announced that the beloved show would return for a third season.
“Abbott Elementary” has been consistently favored since its debut on December 7th, 2021. The show centers around a quirky group of dedicated educators working hard to ensure their students’ success despite day-to-day hiccups in the Philadelphia public school system. Viral sensation Quinta Brunson is behind the hilarious sitcom, which she stars in and executive produces.
On Wednesday, Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, released a statement to Deadline, praising the cast and producers for making everyone laugh while honoring teachers in the process.
“Abbott Elementary is the gift that keeps on giving, and I look forward to many more magnificent episodes of this brilliant, authentic, and just plain funny series,” Dungey wrote.
Currently in its second season, “Abbott Elementary” airs as a part of ABC’s Wednesday night primetime lineup, holding the 9:00 p.m. slot that was once occupied by “Modern Family.” Following the season two premiere on September 21st, ratings for the show quadrupled after just one week of multiplatform viewing.
Congrats to Quinta and the crew!
