ABC has been discussing the future of its medical drama ”Grey’s Anatomy,” as well as its leading lady Ellen Pompeo.
Recently the show made history, with its two-season renewal for season 16 and 17.
“Grey’s Anatomy will live as long as Ellen is interested in playing Meredith Grey,” ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said in an interview with Deadline.
Whether Pompeo will return or not has not been discussed yet.
Grey’s Anatomy will be moving to 9PM and will be followed by its spinoff ”Station 19.”
”Station 19’s” season will begin with a two-hour Station 19-Grey’s crossover.
According to Burke, this will be one of four crossover events throughout the season.
“We don’t want to do it every week, we don’t want to create a mold, we don’t want to fall into any kind of pattern, we don’t want people to ever know what to expect,” Krista Vernoff, executive producer and showrunner of both series said in an interview with Deadline. “We have found many different, really quite exciting and fun ways to interact between the two shows.”
