Two years after the shooting death of his wife in their family home, Michael Jace, known for his role on “The Shield”, has been found guilty of second-degree murder.
The trial lasted a week, with closing arguments and deliberations happening on Friday. You may recall Michael Jace is accused of shooting his wife, April Jace, three times in their Hyde Park home as their two small sons watched. Jace’s defense attorney aimed for a voluntary manslaughter conviction. He argued that yes, Jace killed his wife, but there was no way to prove that he planned it. After the shooting, it was Jace who called 9-1-1 and admitted to killing his wife. Upon calling police and waiting for them to arrive, Jace allegedly told detectives that he only wanted to hurt his wife, not kill her, and that he merely planned to shoot her in the leg with her father’s revolver.
However, prosecutors maintained that the attack was planned, arguing that Michael Jace was upset that his wife asked for a divorce.
