The 2025 Oscars’ In Memoriam segment honored many late entertainment legends, but actor Tony Todd was notably left out, sparking outrage from his family and fans.
The “Candyman” phenomenon’s widow, Fatima, expressed her anger over the award ceremony ignoring Todd’s contributions, telling TMZ, “I’m angry the Oscars snubbed Tony from the In Memoriam tribute.”
Fatima believes race played a role in his exclusion, saying, “People of color and women are often ignored as much as possible when it comes time for the Academy to honor the dead.”
She stressed that Todd’s prolific career included over 250 film and TV credits. This should have secured him a spot in the tribute. Adding to her frustration, Todd was a member of the Academy for 30 years. “Something’s not adding up,” she said.
Todd’s rep, Jeffrey Goldberg, also voiced his disappointment in the brush-off.
“I’ll just say that I’m disappointed that Tony was forgotten. The Academy might want to reconsider the way they do this section of the broadcast.” He noted that while some are remembered, others who deserve recognition are often overlooked.
Although Todd was honored at the SAG Awards with a tribute that Fatima praised, his absence from the Oscars segment left his loved ones and fans disheartened. His widow insists, “He should not have been forgotten,” adding that many have reached out, echoing her frustration.
In addition to “Candyman,” Todd appeared in “Lean on Me,” “Night of the Living Dead,” “Colors,” “Wishmaster,” and many more. Sadly, he passed away on November 6th, 2024 due to stomach cancer.

Leaving Tony Todd out of the memoriam segment is absolutely horrible. He dedicated so much to his craft and gave life to one of the most historically important horror icons. He was one of a kind and deserves recognition #Oscars pic.twitter.com/TSMDtrVCDD
