The 24 year old son of actor Kristoff St. John, who most will know from the long running soap opera “The Young & The Restless,” recently committed suicide and Kristoff is blaming the hospital for letting it happen.
Julian was admitted into La Casa Mental Health Hospital in Long Beach, where he was found dead with a plastic bag over his head last November. Kristoff is suing for wrongful death because less than 3 weeks prior, his son had tried to to asphyxiate himself with a trash bag from his room. The trash bags were never removed from his room and Kristoff believes that after the first attempt, a plastic bag shouldn’t have even been accessible. He also says they were negligent in monitoring his son and that there’s evidence the nurses were falsifying records. Staffers were supposed to check on Julian every 15 minutes because he was a high suicide risk but there’s proof that wasn’t the case. For instance, Julian was pronounced dead at 1:44 PM, but nurses had already logged 6 welfare checks between 2 PM and 3:15 PM.
If you ask me, it looks like Kristoff St. John has a great case. When working in a mental health hospital, something like suicide should be taken very seriously. You don’t even leave laces in their shoes, just in case.
