The watch of the infamous dictator and terrorist Adolf Hitler has been sold for $1.1 million.

For some reason, someone wants the watch of one of the most well-known leaders of the Nazi Party, Adolf Hilter. This week, Jewish leaders and allies spoke out against the sale of Hitler’s watch, which features the initials AH and a swastika.

The watch was sold through a Maryland auction house called Alexander Historical Auctions in Chesapeake City and was estimated to be worth between $2 million and $4 million. The watch, which is being described as a “World War II relic of historic proportions,” was retrieved by a French soldier back in May 1945 during Hitler’s Berchtesgaden retreat, CBS News reports. It sold this week for $1 million.

However, about 34 Jewish leaders and allies came together in an open letter saying the watch was anything but very valuable. They added that the sale of the watch was “abhorrent” and that all Nazi items should be removed from the auction.

“Whilst it is obvious that the lessons of history need to be learned – and legitimate Nazi artifacts do belong in museums or places of higher learning – the items that you are selling clearly do not,” wrote Rabbi Menachem Margolin, chairman of the European Jewish Association.

The says the person who bought the watch is a European Jew, CBS News reports.
