I’m posting this simply to do my part as media and clear up some things I think are still causing a bit of confusion for some people. Adrian Peterson caught a lot of flack for returning to the field this weekend after finding out that his 2 year old had been killed at the hands of another man. As we previously reported, the son that was killed was NOT Adrian Peterson Jr who appears in several photos with AP, but was a secret child that Adrian only found about 2 months ago.
About 2 or 3 months ago the mother had a paternity test done in order to collect child support from the man she believed was her child’s father. The test came back that he was not so she went to Adrian, her supposed next logical choice. Adrian did not question paternity and offered to make things right, even helped financially and made plans to see the child later this month. Due to the unfortunate events, Adrian’s plans to see the child had to be expedited, leaving him seeing the child for the first and last time while he was on life support.
Adrian has taken a DNA test that proves he was the father of the child and plans to fly back to South Dakota soon to attend the child’s funeral. As far as Adrian playing in the game on Sunday, in my opinion, he’s only known OF the child for 2 months and hadn’t met him. Him not needing a long bereavement period makes perfect sense to me. Even if he was grieving, which he very well may, people all grieve differently. Torrey Smith played and led the Ravens to a victory after finding out the little brother that he practically raised had died. He was considered a hero.
