Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson plead guilty to misdemeanor reckless assault in November, admitting to hitting his 4-year-old son with a switch at his Houston area home. Peterson was sentenced to 2 years of probation. His judge has since saw fit to sign off on the termination of his probation 15 months early. Obviously Brett Ligon, the Montgomery County District Attorney, isn’t too happy with the Judge’s decision.
Ligon says that Peterson hasn’t completed his probation obligations. He says not only did Peterson not complete his 80 hours of community service, he also did not record the court-ordered PSA about positive parenting. “We were trying to turn a negative situation into a positive, and the judge waiving that requirement kind of robbed us of the opportunity to take a bad situation and turn it into something good for the community,” Ligon told KHOU.
Ligon plans to file an appeal. The judge declined to comment on Ligon’s claims that Peterson did not complete his probation but did confirm he signed off on the termination of his sentence on July 29th.
