Adrien Broner has been jailed after a Cleveland judge held him in contempt of court on Monday. According to the judge, Broner has failed to unveil his financial documents as part of a civil lawsuit filed by a woman that the boxer assaulted in 2018.

“Mr. Broner has continually defied every court order I’ve given,” Judge Nancy Margaret Russo said. “The jig is up today.”

Judge Russo ruled that the four-division world champion has repeatedly failed to provide the documents that prove he is unable to provide the over $800,000 judgment that he was ordered to pay in December to his victim.  Russo also slammed Broner and his lawyer Stanley Jackson for being late to Monday’s hearing, as well as their August hearing.

The contempt charge was brought about partially due to an Instagram video that the 31-year-old posted last week. In the clip, Broner is seen with large stacks of money after claiming that he had just over $13 to his name in an October 5th court filing. Broner will remain behind bars until he provides truthful information about his finances to the woman’s attorney.

Broner reassured the judge that he will pay the judgment in full after his next fight in January, though it is unclear who that match will be against.

The lawsuit stems from his original November 2018 charge for gross sexual imposition, misdemeanor sexual imposition and abduction. Broner was accused of sexually assaulting the victim at a nightclub in Cleveland’s Warehouse District neighborhood during the 2018 NBA Finals. He pleaded guilty in April 2019 to assault and unlawful restraint and was placed on probation for two years. However, the boxer soon found himself in trouble again in March when he was arrested for driving drunk, which was a violation of his probation. He was sent to jail for seven days for the violation. Not long after, the female victim hit him with the civil suit.

Jackson claims that his client suffers from mental illness and relies heavily on his mother and manager to oversee his finances.
