Over the weekend, an audio recording capturing a conversation between #Republican presidential nominee, #DonaldTrump and #BillyBush leaked, where Trump used graphic language to express how easy it was for someone like him to seduce women.
Since the lewd conversation, reeking of sexism and misogyny surfaced, several prominent Republicans have withdrawn their support of former reality star, the Business Insider reports. However, a few others seem to believe this will all blow over with a handshake and an apology.
According to the #BusinessInsider, a top adviser to #BenCarson, who has been a prominent Trump supporter, said Carson is still standing behind Trump, “firmly.”
“There are two issues. The tape itself, which unfortunately is the kind of language that we hear in rap music, we hear in probably coarse conversations you know, unfortunately, we hear this,” Armstrong Williams said of Trump’s vulgar remarks. “No one listening to that tape in media and political life has not heard it before.”
“He apologized for it, they’ve spoken extensively. Dr. Carson accepts it, and he’s firmly in his corner,” Williams said, revealing he had spoken to Carson moments before his interview with the publication.
“This is a very forgiving nation,” he said, after pointing out that the recording was over a decade old. “They’re willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. You’ve just got to learn from it.”
Regardless of how dated the tape may be, Trump has a history of misogynic and sexist behavior. However, Williams sees this as a bump in the road to a Trump presidency.
“I know there are many people who feel there’s no way he can survive with this, but Dr. Carson thinks there’s a very good chance of him not only surviving, but winning the White House in November.”
“I think all the American people want to see is humility, remorse, and that he’s learning,” Williams added. “They’re shown all along that they’re willing to forgive him for just about anything. And this is no exception.”
