The American Family Association is demanding that people boycott Kellogg‘s over its pride-themed cereal.
According to Newsweek, the anti-LGBTQIA group, AFA, is calling for consumers to boycott Kellog Co. because of its Pride-themed cereal. The limited-edition cereal is named “Together With Pride,” and on its box, it is designed with several popular Kellogg characters. The cereal is berry-flavored and looks like rainbow hearts that have been sprinkled with edible glitter, Newsweek reports.
On top of that, the cereal box has a cutout “Together Band,” and on it, people can represent their pronouns. Each purchased cereal box donates $3 to GLAAD, the American non-governmental media monitoring organization founded as a protest against defamatory coverage of LGBT people. “Each box of Kellogg’s sold affirms to the company Kellogg’s support for homosexuality … [in an] effort to push homosexuality to children,” the AFA states in an “Action Alert” on its website.
“Each box of Kellogg’s sold (gay branded or not) affirms to the company that Kellogg’s support for homosexuality is an acceptable part of their business. We urge you to consider an alternative product to Kellogg’s,” the AFA’s web page continues.
The AFA also included a letter to Kellogg’s CEO, Steve Cahillane, for people to sign. “Homosexuality is a very dangerous and unhealthy lifestyle,” the letter states. “Your decision to promote it could lead untold numbers of children down a path that leads to a very sad and devastating life.”
