Afghan Teenage Girl And Her Brother Kill Taliban Militants Who Killed Their Parents

A 15-year-old girl and her younger brother are responsible for killing two Taliban militants who murdered their parents in Ghor Province, Afghanistan, before fighting off reinforcements.

Qhamar Gul and her brother Habibullah fought back with an Ak-47 assault rifle when several militants attacked their home, Ghor Province spokesman Arif Aber stated to CNN Wednesday. According to the Independent, around 40 Taliban fighters stormed the village of Geriveh in Afghanistan last week.

On July 16, around 1 am, the sibling’s mother and father, a tribal elder and government supporter, were killed by insurgents in the Tyora district after they complained about the Taliban’s demands for tax payments. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

After witnessing her parents’ death, the local police chief told Agence France-Presse that the daughter picked up the rifle and killed the two militants responsible.

The teenager then entered a battle with other Taliban members with her 12-year-old brother, which lasted an hour. More militants later arrived; however, other villagers and government troops helped fight them off.

According to CNN, the brother and sister are in a “safe place,” Aber said without revealing the location.

The Taliban’s goal is to impose its interpretation of Islamic law on Afghanistan and remove foreign influence from the country. On February 29, the U.S. and the Taliban executed a historic, “Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan” that suggests a potential full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

The agreement also outlines a series of commitments from America and the Taliban related to troop levels, counterterrorism, and the intra-Afghan dialogue meant to bring about “a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.”

However, the Taliban reneged on the signing of the deal when they increased its attacks on American’s Afghan allies to higher than usual levels, according to data given to the Pentagon’s Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

Despite the continued attacks on Afghan National Defense and Security Forces, on July 14, the Pentagon announced the U.S. had withdrawn from five bases in Afghanistan and reduced the size of forces in the country.

The government has since praised the children’s bravery during a Cabinet meeting.
