Akon Justifies Having Multiple Wives

How would you feel if you met your ideal baller, hit it off great, then found out he was a polygamist? Not only does he believe in having a side chick (or many), but he is also married to multiple women?

Akon has made it no secret that he practices polygamy, and claims that it is common amongst Muslim men. While it may seem like a foreign practice to us, Akon has 4 wives around the world who are in complete agreement with this lifestyle.

While speaking to a few cameramen at LAX, he explained that guys are “natural breeders,” and it was intended for men to lay up with multiple chicks and that couples need to stop treating their boyfriend/girlfriend relationships like marriages and instead test the waters.

Here are some excerpts from Akon’s interview (TMZ):

Akon believes the idea of a man having to bang one chick for all of eternity is ridiculous and not realistic — and if women could just accept that, there would be far less domestic disputes.

“Women aren’t built to mate with more than one party … men are.”

He adds, “As a male, we’re natural breeders by nature” and women need to take more time to understand how men are built. “I don’t know one woman that can satisfy a man’s every need”

“At the end of the day as a male we are natural breeders by nature. We can’t even escape it if we wanted to.”

I was personally blown away by this as this so far from American ideologies, and it is ridiculous to me that a man could behave this way while women are expected to sit idly by. He says that there is no one woman who can meet every need a man has, and so the man can look outside of the relationship. But he would certainly not agree with a woman saying that she could not find all of the things she wanted in one man, so had multiple boyfriends. Again, the issue of double standards comes up and there is little to be done to refute it.

While I do believe pressures do come with monogamy, I also believe that monogamy is possible and if you are not willing to commit to one person, then you should not engage in the sacred act of marriage. But that’s just me…
