After almost three decades together, Akon and his wife Tomeka Thiam are calling it quits. Court documents reveal that Tomeka filed for divorce just 4 days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
In her filing, Tomeka listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup. She is requesting joint legal custody but wants to have physical custody of their child. Tomeka is also seeking spousal support and has made it clear that she does not want Akon to be eligible for any support from her.
The couple’s long marriage appeared strong from the outside, but the court papers show that things have been unraveling behind the scenes. With 28 years of history, children, and a shared life together, the divorce marks a major shift for the family.
