R&B legend Al B. Sure! has taken to Instagram to share an emotional message about his long-standing experiences in the music industry and his determination to speak the truth, despite being misunderstood and criticized for it. In a powerful video, the singer addresses those who doubted him and reflects on his journey of perseverance.
“I know people thought I was crazy,” Al B. Sure! begins. “Yeah, I am crazy. Pray for the young people. You know what this is. It’s not a game.” He makes it clear that there’s no time to relax or take things lightly when it comes to speaking out on important issues.
The artist then explains that he’s been vocal about certain situations for more than a decade and a half, only to have his concerns dismissed. “Please understand very clearly. There is zero Woosah moments,” he states. “I’ve been talking about situations for over more than a decade and a half, and then all of a sudden everybody woke up like, ‘Whoa.’ Yo. We thought you were crazy.”
He reflects on the sacrifices his mother made to support him during his early years, emphasizing how he had to make a tough decision between traditional paths and following his passion for music. “I’m crazy to tell a mother on three forms of public transportation, across the bridge to get to work to support me, that hey, I may have to pass on these opportunities for scholarships because I’m a writer, I’m a songwriter, and we’re gonna eat for the rest of our lives. That’s crazy.”
Al B. Sure! then takes a moment to affirm his integrity, stating, “But what I am not is a liar. That I’m not. All I did was give the science.” He notes that despite being laughed at, ignored, and ridiculed, he remains steadfast in his beliefs. “I was ignored, laughed at, ridiculed—things of that nature, but that’s okay. My God is so much bigger, and my God got me. And I got you.”
