Alabama offensive lineman Cam Robinson and defensive back Laurence Hootie Jones are in a lot of trouble after being arrested in their hometown of Monroe, Louisiana.
The arrest occurred around 4am on Tuesday morning. According to the police report, an officer spotted Cam’s car parked at Forsythe Park well after the park closed. As the officer approached the vehicle, he says he detected strong odor of marijuana. The passenger, Laurence Jones, also had a gun sitting in his lap. The officer searched the vehicle where he found a bag of weed on the front driver’s floorboard and a stolen handgun under the driver’s seat.
Cam Robinson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen gun. Possession of a stolen gun is a felony charge. Laurence Jones was also arrested on possession of a controlled substance and illegal carrying of a weapon.
Robinson has started every game since 2014. He has been projected as a top pick for the 2017 draft. His bond was set at $750, and he was released from jail at 7:17 am.
“We are aware of the situation involving Hootie Jones and Cam Robinson and are in the process of gathering facts to determine what internal action needs to be taken,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement.
