Authorities say that an Alabama man has confessed to killing his girlfriend and burning her remains on Christmas Eve.

On Thursday, 32-year-old Ace Antonio Pierre Belcher called the Altoona cops to report that he had an argument with his girlfriend Traci Melvin Wilemon that turned physical and led to her death.

Sheriff Jonathon Horton said in a press release that Belcher had initially told the responding police that he found 50-year-old Wilemon lifeless on the floor of their Altoona home. Due to unusual circumstances at the scene, police called investigators from Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.

On Christmas Day, deputies obtained a search warrant and processed the scene for hours before Belcher confessed to killing Wilemon and trying to burn her remains.

Belcher, who was arrested Friday, is facing charges of murder and abuse of a corpse. Online records show that he is currently being held without bond. It is unclear if he’s hired an attorney.

Horton said that the Alabama Department of Forensic Science will conduct an autopsy on Wilemon’s body, and investigators from the sheriff’s office will attend the examination.
