Actor Alec Baldwin claims he battles the lasting effects of accidentally killing a woman on set four years ago.
The trauma from the 2021 shooting death of Halyna Hutchins during the filming of “Rust” still weighs heavily on him, with his wife Hilaria revealing how deeply it has affected him. Baldwin often expressed that he wished it had been him instead.
“This has been just surreal,” Alec admitted to Hilaria during the premiere episode of “The Baldwins,” adding, “I think what it’s done to you how much it’s hurt you and everything” made the experience even harder. He described the year following the incident as “terrible,” revealing how it left him unable to get out of bed, something “not like me at all.”
Alec faced involuntary manslaughter charges after the shooting, but the case was dismissed after crucial evidence was discovered late.
“Everyone who is close to Alec has seen his mental health decline,” Hilaria shared, noting that his OCD worsened and that he was diagnosed with PTSD.
In his darkest moments, he questioned why he was still alive: “If an accident had to have happened this day, why am I still here? Why couldn’t it have been me?” Hilaria said, “You wake up in the morning and you’re like, ‘Oh God, why did I wake up?'”
Alec acknowledged that his wife and children helped him cope.
“Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you and these kids,” he confessed. Following the case’s dismissal, Alec expressed gratitude for his fans’ support, “You will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.”
In October 2022, Halyna Hutchins’ family settled a lawsuit with the producers of the film. However, In March 2024, their legal team blasted them for failing to complete the payment.
