Alicia Keys is stepping into the producing ring in conjunction with Fox Searchlight and iDeal partners production company to bring the biopic of idol choreographer Alvin Ailey to life. The Ailey Organization and his dance theatre’s artistic directors, Robert Battle and Emeritha Jamison, will also be assisting the production on the project.

Battle had this to say about the project: “We are thrilled to be working with these incredible partners to bring to the screen the amazing journey and revolutionary choreography of Alvin Ailey, whose life and legacy profoundly impacted people of all backgrounds around the world.”

The story will tell of Ailey’s start, living in Texas with a single mother all the way up until his unfortunate death at the age of 58 from AIDS-related ailments. Barack Obama even selected Ailey as the posthumous recipient of the 2014 Presidential Medal of Freedom.
