Gilbert Arenas’ son Alijah survived a terrifying Cybertruck crash, and now the ex-NBA star is shedding light on what caused the wreck.

The 17-year-old USC basketball commit was involved in the accident in April, when his Cybertruck veered off the road, slammed into a fire hydrant and a tree, then burst into flames. Locked inside with unbreakable bulletproof windows, Alijah couldn’t escape until bystanders came to his rescue.
Speaking on the “All The Smoke” podcast, Gilbert explained that a steering issue caused the crash.
“The car malfunctioned on him,” he said. “The steering wheel went limp and ran him right into a tree.”
Arenas shut down speculation that Alijah had fallen asleep.
“He’s on the phone with 9-1-1 for 10 minutes. He said he was trying to kick the window in and couldn’t,” Gilbert explained.
After Alijah came out of an induced coma, Gilbert used humor to cope, telling his son, “Boy, you almost went extra crispy on me.” But the message turned serious. “You’re lucky to see the flowers while you’re still here. This is what’s supposed to make you great; you saw life almost end.”
Alijah is expected to fully recover and begin his college career at USC this fall.
