The murder of Alonzo Brooks caught the world by storm when the case was debuted on the reboot of Unsolved Mysteries that premiered on Netflix.
Brooks was 23 years old in 2004 when he went to a party in LaCygne, which is on the eastern edge of Kansas, with some friends. He never came home and family members found his body in a creek weeks after he went missing.
Brooks’ mother, Maria Ramirez, spoke with TMZ about the investigation to her son’s murder. “With all the recent events that are going on, I’m glad that it aired out when it did because it has brought out more support and awareness for my son’s case Alonzo.”
Ramirez continued, ” I have faith this time. I have that feeling that something is going to come up…someone’s going to say something. It’s going to crack this case up.”
Brooks’ mother feels that if it wasn’t for Unsolved Mysteries, none of this would be happening and believes that she will get closure this time.
Earlier this week, KSNT reported that Alonzo’s body was exhumed in Topeka, Kansas as more tips continued to pour in.
Law enforcement had no suspects for the family back in May 2004 and the case went cold until the FBI decided to reopen the case. They are now calling his death a hate crime and is offering $100,000 reward to anyone that has information that will lead to an arrest.
