The American Medical Association is facing renewed backlash over its recommendation that sex markers be removed from birth certificates.
The Board of Trustees publicized the guidance in June after being proposed by the House of Delegates. Sex would still be recorded for medical and statistical use but would not be listed on the portion of the birth certificate made public.
Over the weekend, WebMD tweeted about the topic, linking a June article with the AMAs recommendation. Some conservatives on Twitter got ahold of the tweet, and they were not pleased.
Sex should be removed as a legal designation on the public part of birth certificates, the American Medical Association (AMA) said Monday. https://t.co/U9w38qvwtV pic.twitter.com/NeIPafpv3T

Former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley called it the most ridiculous thing she’s ever heard.

Another user called removing sex from the birth certificate “criminal negligence.”
This is so stupid. Sex is not gender. Sex is determined by ones DNA. Sex does not define how you feel about your genitalia. Sex is VITALLY important medical information and taking it off a birth certificate isn't just stupid, its criminal negligence. https://t.co/Ln8k3RA1mk

Another user joked he’d prefer medical advice from Dr. Dre over the AMA.
I would trust Dr. Dre on medical advice over these nutbags: https://t.co/noltF8mHkS
